Mikkel Kessler (40-1-0, 30 KOs) of Denmark will face former European super middleweight champion Danilo Haussler (29-3-1, 7 KOs) of Germany in Weser-Ems-Halle to defend his WBA World Super Middleweight title.

Bookmakers have already considered this fight to be a gross mismatch and give no chance to Haussler. Kessler has to fight this mandatory bout only because Haussler is ranked number one by WBA.

Ever since Haussler lost his EBU title in 2002, he has gotten two opportunities to recapture it but failed.

With only one loss in his career and that to a close fight with Joe Calzaghe, Kessler is a hands down favorite to win this. It seems like a practice match for Mikkel Kessler before he takes a shot at unifying the WBC and WBA titles in a match up against Lucian Bute in 2009.

Mikkel Kessler and Danilo Haussler have voiced their confidence ahead of Saturday´s WBA super-middleweight title fight in Oldenburg, Germany. After both fighters underwent a brief public practice session today, they answered questions from the media in great detail. “I never underestimate my opponents,” the Danish champion said. “Danilo Haussler is physically very strong but I have advantages when it comes down to reach and footwork. I have trained very hard in Monaco and Denmark. I feel in great shape.”

The Viking Warrior (40-1, 30 KOs) has firmly set his sights on his 41st victory. “I am prepared for the possibility of going 12 rounds,” he stated. “But I have no doubts that I will leave the ring victorious!”

His opponent, however, is envisioning a different outcome. “I have been working many, many years to get the chance to fight for the world title,” Haussler (29-3, 7 KOs) said. “I will make the most of it and want to win. Kessler might be taller than I am, but I have a huge heart and will show my tremendous fighting spirit.”

Beim Volkswagenzentrum VW Braasch in der Bremer Straße hielt das Sauerland – Boxteam sein Showtraining für die Presse ab.
Am Samstag den 25.10.2008 findet in der Weser-Ems Halle der WM-Kampf von Danilo Häussler, dem Herausforderer, gegen den Weltmeister Mikkel Kessler aus Dänemark statt.
Vor dem ARD-TV-Event findet traditionsgemäß eine Strecke von Presseterminen statt, von denen einer das Meeting bei VW war.
Sowohl Mikkel Kessler als auch Danilo Häussler präsentierten sich gewohnt zuversichtlich, ließen sich geduldig ablichten und tänzelten kurz mit ihren Trainern durch den Ring.

Häusslers Trainer ist der TV-bekannte ehemalige Olympiasieger Manfred Wolke.

Der Pressetross zieht nun weiter zum offiziellen Wiegetermin und weiteren Pressekonferenzen, bis am Samstag spät abends der Worte genug gewechselt sind und endlich die Fäuste fliegen.

Mikkel Kessler vs Danilo Haussler for the WBA supermiddleweight title appears now to be all set for October 25 with Duesseldorf - there is still no official confirmation from Sauerland Event who promotes the fight but the champ writes on his website, mikkelkessler.com the fight is on. Duesseldorf is a bit surprising as venue - it´s far from home for Haussler, who´s had all his major fights in what used to be East Germany.

EBU welter champ Jackson Osei Bonsu will defend the title September 13 in Kielce, Poland, against Rafael Jackiewicz - and is still set to make his mandatory defence against Jan Zaveck October 10 in Slovenia.

German-based Cuban cruiser Yoan Pablo Hernandez have been added to the Valuev vs Ruiz show in Berlin August 30. Hernandez take on Marcos Hernandez.

Belorus heavyweight giant Alexander Ustinov face Brazilian Daniel Bispo in Beijing, China, August 22. Ustinov is signed to K 2 East and this fight is promoted by a Russian support group to the country´s Olympic committee.

The documentary on now retired lightheavy Ole Klemetsen called "Blood and Honour" goes up on the cinemas in Norway this week and reviews have been very good. Ole and his dad Big John Klemetsen had a colorful and exciting career first with an exellent amateur career, then as a pro, first with Kronk and Emanuel Steward in the US, then in the UK with Panos Eliades and Frank Maloney, later with Steffen Tangstad and Mogens Palle. Ole could punch and was a very good talent but always had a leaky defence and a not so strong chin. All in all, it made for quite a career. Today Team Klemetsen is the same as dance hall band on the Norwegian circuit with Big John as singer and front figure.

Danish promoter and manager Robert Larsen have had his licensed revoked by the Danish Federation. Larsen admits to being late with the paperwork but strongly denies any connection with the ongoing feud with Evans Ashira, the African Warrior, who has sent out a number of press releases and in one of them claims that Larsen´s license is suspended due to this conflict. Larsen Boxing are behind the planned comeback by Riddick Bowe in Gyor, Hungary, September 12. Bowe is to fight Hungarian Zoltan Petranyi, who´s also active as promoter, manager and agent. Larsen Boxing also take heavyweight Ingvardt Jorgensen to Sweden September 5 where he is to fight Robert Helenius. A show is in the works on Danish soil later in the fall possibly with WBO I/C welter champ Christian Bladt headlining.

There are still two days to go before it truly gets serious for the protagonists of Saturday´s event in Oldenburg. But before things get going inside the ring, the rivals for the WBA super-middleweight title and cruiserweight European title demonstrated a lot of mutual respect. “My preparation has gone well – better than usual,” revealed Mikkel Kessler ahead of his title defence against mandatory challenger Danilo Haussler. He is prepared for a fight which goes the distance of 12 rounds. “Haussler has a big heart, but I am convinced that I will remain world champion,” added Kessler.
Kessler’s manager Mogens Palle was equally confident. He said: “I did not want this fight, but I don’t want to talk about that here. I have seen a few of Danilo Haussler’s fights. If he fights like he has done up to now, it will be very tough to hit him. I don’t want to predict the outcome, but a points decision would be enough for us.”
Danilo Haussler made it clear that getting a fight for the WBA world title is a dream come true. Although he is aware that his opponent will be the favourite, he still fancies his chances. “The longer the fight goes on, the better my chances are,” said the 33-year-old challenger. That is the way Haussler’s coach Manfred Wolke sees it too. “Obviously, Mikkel Kessler is physically strong, but you cannot under-estimate his boxing qualities either. It will not be easy. We want to start picking up big points from the beginning and then hope for a good ending,” said the 65-year-old coach.
The European cruiserweight title fight between title-holder Marco “Captain” Huck and the Italian challenger Fabio Tuiach (28) promises just as much tension. Although both rivals come into the fight with practically the same records of 22 to 23 wins, the 23-year-old European Champion feels he is well-prepared for the fight. “I did not expect to fight again so soon after winning the European title against Jean Marc Monrose, but then the coach called me and I began preparing immediately,” he revealed. “I am delighted to be fighting again in Oldenburg and I want to defend my European belt with all my might,” he added.
Challenger Fabio Tuaich paid respect to his opponent, but made it clear that he had not travelled all the way to Oldenburg only to return empty-handed. “Marco Huck is a strong fighter, but I did not come here to lose. I want to take the European title back to Italy with me,” said the cruiserweight fighter from Trieste.

Kessler-Sartison: The Winner Must Face Haussler Inside 120 days

By Nate Anderson: Tomorrow night, we’ll be seeing arguably the second best super middleweight in boxing when the Danish Mikkel Kessler (39-1, 29 KOs) faces little known Dimiri Sartison (22-0, 14 KOs) for the vacant WBA super middleweight title in Copenhagen. Kessler, known mostly for his technical boxing skills and well as his excellent power and elusiveness, originally wanted to fight WBA super middleweight champion Australian Anthony Mundine for the title.

However, Mundine gave up the title on May 28th, which left the title open for Kessler, the number #1 contender and Sartison, the #4 contender to battle it out for the vacant title. Kessler had hopes of fighting middleweight Kelly Pavlik sometime either late this year or early next year. However, it was learned today that the winner of tomorrow night’s fight between Kessler and Sartison will have only 120 days with which to defend the title against Danilo Haussler. For Kessler, should he win tomorrow night, that’s not the best of boxing news he could get because a bout with Pavlik would figure to be a much bigger and better paying bout than the virtually unknown Haussler would.

However, there’s always a way around these kinds of messy things, and hopefully Kessler would be able to work some kind of arrangement out for Haussler to briefly step aside so that Kessler could fight Pavlik, a fight which would be much more competitive, I think, than a potential bout with Haussler.

As for tomorrow night, Kessler will be fighting for the first time in seven months. The last time he fought, in November, he lost a close, somewhat controversial 12-round unanimous decision to Joe Calzaghe. Many of the rounds were very close, making it hard to judge who was getting the better of whom. However, one thing is certain, Kessler did better in the early rounds, appeared to lose the middle rounds and then came on in the final three rounds of the fight.

I personally felt that he did enough to get a narrow decision over Calzaghe, but it was hard to tell who won many of the closer rounds, and there were quite a few close rounds in the fight. Naturally, due to the closeness of the fight, Kessler was interested in fighting a rematch and avenging his defeat. However, Calzaghe refused to bite, saying that he didn’t want a rematch because he wasn’t sure he would do as well next time out, whereas Kessler would probably improve.

You can say that again. Kessler would definitely improve and I have doubts that he would beat Calzaghe conclusively, so that there would be no question in people’s mind who the better fighter was between them. However, in the absence of that, Kessler will have to be satisfied with having lost by a narrow decision to Calzaghe. Kessler is prepared, though, to take over the mantle once Calzaghe steps down from boxing video after he fights for the final time later on this year, likely against Roy Jones Jr.

Sartison, 28, has an excellent jab and good right hand. He throws a variety of punches – left hooks, right hooks, uppercuts and straight rights – and is difficult to predict what he’s going to throw. He uses his jab constantly and it’s a formidable weapon for him, one that he usually likes to follow with a right hand behind it. He throws a sweeping right hand at times and it’s got a lot of power behind it generally.

Offensively, he might be a little better than Kessler, at least in terms of power and punch variety. However, he doesn’t move all that well and can be considered somewhat slow of foot. I suppose his jab enables him to get away with not having good footwork, plus he’s not have to face an opponent that moves nearly enough to cause him any problems. His defense is rather poor, especially his defense to a right hand.

In his fight with Argentinean Pable Daniel Zamora Nievas, whom he stopped in the 8th round in February, Sartison was nailed repeatedly by right hands from Nievas for most of the fight. This might have been a problem if not for the fact that Nievas couldn’t handle Sartison’s own right hand boxing videos, which hurt him numerous times in the fight.

A dream comes true for Dimitri Sartison: the unbeaten spotlight-Fighter Sartison (22-0-0 (14)) will face the former WBA and WBC world champion Mikkel Kessler (39-1-0 (29)) in the Danish capital of Copenhagen in a bout for the WBA world title belt at super middleweight. Born in Kazakhstan, he now lives in Hamburg with his wife Regina and calls it his home after he had signed a contract with spotlight boxing in September 2003.

After turning pro Sartison has continued his climb to the top although he was held back with many injuries. “Dimi” had a very successful amateur career and he won 95 out of his 115 fights with being runner up at the youth world championships in 1998. With his talent, his great skills and his hard working training efforts he has impressed not only his coach Magomed Schaburow but also his promoter Dietmar Poszwa.

“Dimitri Sartison has deserved this chance. I’m very happy for him as he has worked for this world title fight over many years. Surely he is the underdog but in boxing everything is possible!”

It is Sartison’s 23rd pro fight and his first title bout. Now he has reached the dream of every boxer – a shot at one of the world titles! Having the fight in Kessler’s homeland of Denmark is no problem for Sartison as he had successful fights in Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

“I’m happy to fight in Copenhagen and I’m very excited about it. This world title bout is something I have worked for over many years. I had injuries on the way and had to work even harder to come back but it was worth it. I have always believed in myself. With my coach Magomed Schaburow and the rest of my team we have been in an extremely hard and enduring trainings camp in Moscow. I couldn’t have prepared myself better for this now. The finals stages of the preparations were held in Hamburg. I can only say: I want to bring the WBA belt to Germany!”

Middleweight Gennady Golovkin (12-0-0 (10)) – another fighter of the training group of Magomed Schaburow – will have to face Amar Amari (13-8-1 (8)) of Algeria in his 13th pro fight. Golovkin is known for his excellent technique and boxing skills as well for his hard punch.
